Bulls quietly have the most underrated trade candidate in the NBA

The Chicago Bulls are in a bit of an uncertain position this season. Their roster is not exactly one people can confidently call a playoff team, but their apparent direction does not point to a youth movement, which in NBA terms refers to trying to not win as much in order to bolster their draft position.

Fortunately for them, no matter which way they decide to go, they have a way to extract assets they can use for later. One of those is testing the waters on Tre Jones, who might just be the most underrated trade candidate in the league if the Bulls do make him available.

Tre Jones will be an attractive trade commodity for the Bulls if he is made available

Last season, the heady point guard turned in his best season yet as a pro. Jones averaged 14.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per outing on 55.3 percent shooting from the floor while also turning the ball over just 1.4 times per game. He was wildly efficient as a floor general in Chicago, and he won over a lot of fans in Windy City.

Prudence, however, dictates that their front office should strongly consider selling on Jones while his value is at its highest.

First off, Jones turns 27 on Jan. 8, which makes his age a bit incompatible with the team's timeline. He is in his prime, but the Bulls are not exactly looking to win now. They might say otherwise, but their roster screams rebuild.

Second, the Bulls will most likely be able to fetch significant interest in Jones. His deal is reasonable at just $8 million per season, and his contract includes a team option for 2027-28, giving the team which trades for him enough roster control.

Lastly, Jones' fit with Josh Giddey can be finicky. Both players are not exactly floor spacers and require the ball in their hands to do the most damage.

For those reasons, Chicago should explore the idea of trading Jones. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with the point guard, but the team's situation makes it so that it is more reasonable for them to sell high right now.
