Jim Harbaugh’s belief in Mike McDaniel appears to be wavering.

The Los Angeles Chargers had their worst offensive showing yet in Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The Chargers managed just 259 total yards in a 22-6 loss, keeping them as one of only two winless teams in the NFL.

Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel already entered the Week 6 clash with his seat feeling warm. The same seat was scorching hot after yet another poor offensive effort.

After the game, reporters asked Harbaugh about potentially relieving McDaniel of play-calling duties. The Chargers head coach did not rule it out.

“We’re going to look at everything,” Harbaugh said.

“The job I’m doing, it starts with me. The plan is we’ll watch this and get with our offensive coaches. I see the effort. I see the work being put in, in the meetings, on the practice field. To get that to translate to the field is what’s necessary.”

Harbaugh placed his full trust in McDaniel in the offseason, claiming that the latter would have complete control over the Chargers’ offense for the 2026 campaign. That trust remained after the team’s 0-3 start, with Harbaugh firmly stating that he still trusted McDaniel and that his job was not in jeopardy.

But after arguably the Chargers’ most disappointing start in franchise history, it’s no surprise that Harbaugh may be reconsidering his stance on McDaniel.
