A look at CFP, national title odds after chaotic Week 7

Following college football's Week 7 carnage, let's look at the fallout and what's ahead in Week 8.

Below are the updated odds for the current AP top 12 teams to make the CFP, plus their odds to win the national title outright.

Believe it or not, Fighting Irish fans, your team's playoff hopes aren't over despite Notre Dame's controversial loss to BYU.

In fact, Notre Dame is still the slight favorite to reach college football's promised land for the first time since 1988. Interestingly, No. 13 Alabama (5-2), No. 18 LSU (5-2), No. 19 Texas (4-2), and unranked Oregon (4-2) better odds, per DraftKings, to win the national title than four teams in AP's top 12.

1. Miami (6-0)

Odds to make CFP: −3500

Odds to win championship: +600

Remaining games: vs. Pittsburgh (Oct. 24), at North Carolina, at Notre Dame, vs. Duke, vs. Virginia Tech, vs. Boston College

Week 8 outlook: The Hurricanes' pass defense (91st in the country) was exposed in their win over Florida State. Pittsburgh's passing game ranks 19th (284.6 yds per game), which is cause for concern, but Miami is a three-touchdown favorite against the Panthers.

2. BYU (6-0)

Odds to make CFP: −140

Odds to win championship: +4500

Remaining games: at UCF (Oct. 24), vs. Arizona State, at Utah, vs. Baylor, at Kansas, vs. Cincinnati

Week 8 outlook: The Cougars won't suffer a literal hangover after beating the Fighting Irish (not with BYU's sober bunch), but figuratively that could be another story against UCF.

3. Ohio State (6-1)

Odds to make CFP: -950

Odds to win championship: +480

Remaining games:  Bye week (Oct. 24), at USC, vs. Oregon, vs. Northwestern, at Nebraska, vs. Michigan

Week 8 outlook: It's bye week for the Buckeyes. Perfect. They can take a big breath, get healthy and reflect on their exhausting win at Indiana. Huge problem, though: Star quarterback Justin Sayin injured his throwing shoulder and is out indefinitely.

4. Notre Dame (6-1)

Odds to make CFP: -950

Odds to win championship: +450

Remaining games:  Bye week (Oct. 24), vs. Navy, vs. Miami, vs. Boston College, vs. SMU

Week 8 outlook: The Fighting Irish might need a break even more than Ohio State. Can Notre Dame mentally regroup after their demoralizing loss to BYU? Who knows, but they'll have time to process it.

5.
Georgia (6-1)

Odds to make CFP: −1100

Odds to win championship: +510

Remaining games: Bye week (Oct. 24), vs. Florida, at Ole Miss, vs. Missouri, at South Carolina, vs. Georgia Tech

Week 8 outlook: After a stunning home loss to rival Auburn as a 20-point favorite, the Bulldogs will get nine days off to get their bark back.

6. Indiana (6-1)

Odds to make CFP: −700

Odds to win championship: +820

Games remaining: at Michigan (Oct. 24), vs . Minnesota, vs. USC, at Washington, vs. Purdue

Week 8 outlook: Bloomington became Heartbreak City on Saturday following the Hoosiers' close loss to Ohio State. Now it's off to The Big House, where Michigan will show off its shiny new Carr.

7. Ole Miss (5-1)

Odds to make CFP: −125

Odds to win championship: +1400

Games remaining: at No. 19 Texas (Oct. 24), vs. Auburn, vs. Georgia, at Oklahoma, vs. Wofford, vs. Mississippi State

Week 8 outlook: The Rebels rocked a solid Missouri squad last weekend, and now they catch a Texas team on tilt. Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss's Heisman Trophy stock should keep climbing.

8. Texas Tech (6-0)

Odds to make CFP: −110

Odds to win championship: +4500

Games remaining: at Cincinnati (Oct. 24), vs. Arizona, vs. West Virginia, at Oklahoma State, at Baylor, vs. TCU

Week 8 outlook: The Red Raiders are rolling and should make short work of the Bearcats on the road. Then again, look at Week 7.

9. UCLA  (6-0)

Odds to make CFP: +134

Odds to win championship: +8400

Games remaining: at No. 19 Texas (Oct. 24), vs. Auburn, vs. Georgia, at Oklahoma, vs. Wofford, vs. Mississippi State

Week 8 outlook: The Bruins held Wisconsin to seven points last Saturday. This week, UCLA faces Michigan State, which ranks 128th in total offense, so expect a Bruins blowout.

10. Utah (6-0)

Odds to make CFP: +115

Odds to win championship: +5800

Games remaining: vs. No. 14 Houston (Oct. 24), at Cincinnati, vs. BYU, at Arizona, at TCU, vs. West Virginia

Week 8 outlook: The high-scoring Houston Cougars come to Salt Lake City. ESPN's College GameDay crew will be in town, but the biggest distraction the Utes face is looking ahead to their Nov. 7 game against rival BYU. That shouldn't be a problem for Utah after last week's close call in Colorado.

11. Tennessee (6-1)

Odds to make CFP: +154

Odds to win championship: +5500

Games remaining: at South Carolina (Oct. 24), vs. Kentucky, at Texas A&M, vs. LSU, at Vanderbilt

Week 8 outlook: The Volunteers could run the table and finish the regular season 11-1. It all starts Saturday with a tough road game against South Carolina. The Gamecocks are 10th among FBS teams in rushing, but Tennessee's stout defense allows only 14.9 ppg (ninth).

12. Kentucky (6-1)

Odds to make CFP: +240

Odds to win championship: +10000

Games remaining: vs. Vanderbilt (Oct. 24), at Tennessee, vs. Florida, at Missouri, vs. Louisville

Week 8 outlook: Another sneaky good SEC team. Will Stein's Wildcats are one of the most overlooked teams in the country. But likely not for much longer. Kentucky's game at Tennessee on Nov. 7 looms, but first up is a gimme (on paper) vs. Vanderbilt on Saturday.
