A University of Utah football player has been suspended indefinitely from the program after he was arrested following an alleged domestic incident.
Jamal Wallace, a backup defensive tackle for the Utes, was arrested on Oct. 11 after a woman he had been dating said he forced her to perform a sexual act and then shared a video of the alleged incident on her Snapchat account.
According to KSL.com reporter Josh Furlong, the woman said she and Wallace were on a couch having a conversation about "infidelity and their relationship" when he suddenly grabbed her head and forced her to perform oral sex on him, according to a probable cause statement.
Furlong's report provides more graphic details of the alleged incident, in which the woman said Wallace took her phone and took video of "him raping her" without her knowledge and then sent it to five people on Snapchat. When the woman learned that he posted the videos, she felt "confused and disgusting."
After reviewing the woman's Snapchat account, Salt Lake City police said they found videos of the incident, in which the phone was "in his possession."
The Salt Lake Tribune's Jason Batacao reported that Salt Lake County jail dockets indicate Wallace was arrested and booked on Sunday, Oct. 11, on five counts of distribution of an intimate image, a misdemeanor.
Wallace was not arrested on suspicion of a sexual assault charge and denied sexually assaulting the woman during a police interview, according to the arrest document obtained by the Tribune. He had not been formally charged as of Oct. 21.
"We were made aware of the situation with Jamal Wallace on Oct. 11, and he was immediately placed on an indefinite suspension from the program," a Utah athletics spokesperson said in a statement. “We take these matters seriously. As this is a pending legal matter, we have no further comment at this time.”
Wallace, a senior backup who transferred to Utah after two seasons with Tennessee, appeared in only one game for the Utes this year.
