College football rankings: New AP Top 25 Poll has major moves after Week 8

College football is reaching the part of the season when every game feels a little more important. Some teams are making their case for a spot in the AP Top 25 poll, while others are trying to avoid falling out of the rankings altogether. And just when you think you've figured out which teams are for real, college football has a way of throwing a surprise your way.

That's what makes this stretch of the season so much fun. Teams are under pressure and the stakes are getting really high. Week 8 delivered plenty of action, with some teams strengthening their positions and others giving voters a reason to reconsider where they belong. This week's results reflect all of that movement, setting up another interesting look at who's climbing, who's slipping and which teams are starting to make their presence felt.

Biggest moves in AP Top 25 poll

USC had a weekend it would rather forget. The Trojans entered Saturday ranked No. 16, but their trip to Wisconsin turned into a nightmare as the Badgers controlled the game and handed them a lopsided 24-7 defeat. It was one of the weekend's biggest surprises and left USC with plenty of ground to make up.

The loss also ended the Trojans' run in the AP Top 25. They had appeared in every poll this season, but with two defeats now on their record, voters sent them packing. Wisconsin took advantage of the upset, earning its way into the rankings at No. 25 after knocking off a team that had been firmly in the mix all year.

Elsewhere, Miami continues to set the pace at No. 1, and Ohio State now sits right behind the Hurricanes.
