Robert Griffin III interested in Baylor head-coaching job

Baylor football was in the headlines over the weekend when it made the decision to fire head coach Dave Aranda after nearly seven seasons as head coach.

Baylor will have the remainder of the season to conduct a head coach search, and one alumnus and football legend has made his interest in the head-coaching vacancy known.

Robert Griffin III is interested in the opening

Former Baylor quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III joined "The Dan Patrick Show" Monday and revealed his interest in the head-coaching vacancy.

Griffin, who has no coaching experience, believes that the university needs someone that knows what it's like to win.

"I would 100% be interested," Griffin told Patrick. "If Baylor wants to get back to winning and have a university that isn’t just respectable on the football field, but the fans can be proud of, they need people who know what it looks like to win at Baylor."

Robert Griffin III endorsed other coaches for the opening

Along with himself, Griffin mentioned two other coaches he would endorse for the opening at Baylor.

The first coach Griffin endorsed was Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson. Danielson has been at Boise State since the 2023 season and has gone 30-9 with three consecutive Mountain West Championships.

The second coach was UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor. Traylor has been with UTSA since the 2020 season and has gone 60-27 during his tenure.

Robert Griffin III also named a dark horse

After his endorsement of Danielson and Traylor, Griffin also named a dark-horse candidate who he believes would be interested in the opening.

That dark horse was none other than current USC head coach Lincoln Riley. Griffin called a possible move from USC to Baylor an "advantageous move for both parties."

It will be interesting to see exactly what route Baylor takes and to see if Griffin or any of the names he mentioned become actual candidates.
