Bears QB Caleb Williams slapped with another big NFL punishment

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is back on the field after being out for three games with an injury, but he's already getting slapped with punishment from the NFL.

According to a report from NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk, the NFL has officially fined Chicago's quarterback $23,882 for wearing an "unauthorized logo" on his shoes during the Week 7 game against the New England Patriots. That's two times the amount he was fined last week for wearing the shoes in Week 6, which was $11,941.

But it appears Williams isn't sweating it. This week, he said that he'll still sport the shoes, which don't have an official deal with the NFL.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams isn't backing down after another NFL fine

"I try to be healthy. They're smart cleats," Williams said during a presser this week, per NBC Sports. "They're science cleats, and they've been working for me. A bunch of other guys wear them in the league, and they're forward-focused on making sure players stay on the field, and that's what I'm always focused on."

Mike Florio says Williams "presumably will appeal the second fine."

Plus, the NFL is expected to keep giving fines to Williams in increasing amounts until Williams gives in, Florio notes.

"At some point, the league could (in theory) prevent Williams from playing in the non-conforming shoes," he adds. "Neither fine letter, however, warns him that he could be kept from playing with the Caddix shoes."

Next up for the Bears, Williams and his cleats will take on the Seattle Seahawks for a "Monday Night Football" matchup on the road.
