The NFC East is right there for the taking, and nobody seems to want to grab it. That includes the Dallas Cowboys, who missed a chance to get back to .500 on Sunday, and a chance to win consecutive games for the first time this season, in a 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
With a 3-5 record and a defense that continues to struggle, it is not out of line to start wondering about potential changes.
But team owner Jerry Jones said Sunday he isn't ready to go in that direction.
What makes Sunday's loss even worse than the result itself is the fact the Cowboys had a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter and were going up against a backup quarterback in Gardner Minshew after Arizona benched Jacoby Brissett.
That was still not enough to secure the win.
It is the first time since the 2000 season the Cowboys lost a game in which they had a 14-point lead at any point in the fourth quarter, winning 69 consecutive games under such circumstances.
Jones said that result is "an indictment of the whole show," including himself.
But he also said that he still has confidence in Schottenheimer and is not considering any coaching changes at the moment.
Jerry Jones said he is not considering any kind of coaching changes and said he still has confidence in Brian Schottenheimer.

While it might be premature to consider a change with Schottenheimer, despite his 10-14-1 record through Sunday, some sort of defensive change should at least be on the table.
The Cowboys have had one of the league's worst defenses for two years now and are not getting any better. They have not held a single team to under 20 points this season, and have spent big draft pick capital in an effort to try and improve it. Nothing seems to be working.
It is also worth noting that just because an owner or general manager gives a vote of confidence does not mean things can not change, and change quickly. Believe what teams do. Not what they say. A couple of more games like Sunday could get Jones to change his mind quickly.
