Ranking the NHL's Hometown Remix jerseys: Nos. 32-25

The NHL and Fanatics released the Hometown Remix uniforms on Monday, after many were already leaked on social media, the Macy’s website and even by a fan at a game.

The rollout was poor and some of these jerseys are just as bad.

The uniforms, which were announced in August, is the third special league-wide rollout for the NHL, following the Reverse Retro 2.0 set in 2022-23, and were designed to “uniquely and authentically celebrate the fans, city and local culture of each team,” according to the NHL.

Without further ado, let’s rank each jersey in ascending order.

No. 32: Winnipeg Jets

This ranking starts with a grouping of jerseys that all have a similar theme, but the Jets take the bottom for one reason. The jersey is supposed to represent aurora borealis but let’s leave that for those “Simpsons” memes and leave the gradients in the 90s.

Another dark blue and royal blue jersey, the details represent the Vancouver skyline but it's hard to make out from afar. The Canucks have had a wild history of uniforms to pull from, yet we get this bland offering.

No. 30: Edmonton Oilers

Yet another dark base, brighter color pop jersey offering. The black represents oil, sure, but it just looks like a knockoff of what they already wear. If this would have truly represented oil workers, use the worker logo as the crest, at least.

No. 29: St. Louis Blues

Yeah, it’s the same thing once again. The Blues are in black and have waves on the sleeves that you can’t see from afar for the dark waters of the Mississippi River. What? This only ranks above the others for reviving this crest logo, but not by much.

The enlarged crest is what the team should be doing full time, but that’s the only redeeming factor about this. It’s bland otherwise and the subtle arching on the sleeve stripes is hard to make out. It’s also a crime that NJ logo on the pants isn’t a shoulder patch.

The trend is broken, but the execution on this one isn’t the best. The crest logo is the weakest of the Avalanche’s set, keeping its yeti foot logo on ice once again. The sleeves are Denver Broncos-like with the mountain theme, but the gradients and lack of red hurt it.

It was a valiant attempt to copy a western-style country shirt that either has fans or detractors with no in-between. If you’re going to go in a direction, just go all out with it. The collar and sleeve details are there on top, but the bottom is still a hockey jersey.

It’s basically the exact thing the Red Wings already wear except there’s a white wrist stripe that will barely be seen under the gloves and it says “Hockeytown” on the front. The Wings have had plenty of one-offs in the past and tend to be restrained on designs, but this barely represents Detroit as is. It’s only this high because it’s still a classic design.
