Lakers superstar Luka Doncic off to start NBA hasn’t seen since 1986

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic has opened the 2026-27 NBA season with a historic scoring stretch, placing himself alongside two of basketball's most legendary players.

Doncic has scored 226 points through his first six appearances, becoming just the third player since 1960 to reach at least 225 points over his opening six games of a season.

His latest performance came Sunday night against the Toronto Raptors, when he delivered another dominant offensive showing.

NBA History highlighted the achievement on X, formerly Twitter, following Doncic's latest scoring outburst, identifying the exclusive company the Lakers guard has joined.

According to NBA History, Doncic joins Michael Jordan, who accomplished the feat in 1986, and Wilt Chamberlain, who reached the mark twice. No other player had recorded such a start since Jordan's historic 1986-87 campaign.

The milestone underscores Doncic's remarkable scoring production as Los Angeles continues navigating the opening weeks of its season.

Luka Doncic continues historic scoring surge for Lakers

Doncic strengthened his place in NBA history with 45 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and five steals in the Lakers' 131-125 victory over Toronto on Sunday.

The victory helped Los Angeles bounce back from Friday's loss to the Golden State Warriors while handing Toronto its third defeat in four games. The Lakers built a commanding lead before the Raptors rallied in the fourth quarter, but Doncic's production helped Los Angeles secure the win.

The scoring explosion continued an impressive stretch that included 52 points against the Utah Jazz on Oct. 25 and another 41 against the Portland Trail Blazers two nights later. The Slovenian superstar also scored 37 points against the Warriors on Friday.

Through six appearances, Doncic is averaging approximately 37.7 points per game, establishing himself among the league's most productive scorers.

Doncic's historic start has provided Los Angeles with an early offensive foundation as the Lakers look to establish themselves in the Western Conference. His continued scoring production could prove critical as the team attempts to build on its promising start.
