It was reported ahead of the weekend that Indianapolis Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon "would need a significant haul to part with" star running back Jonathan Taylor before the NFL trade deadline arrives on Nov. 10, even though the Colts acquired future draft assets for eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner last week.
However, that story surfaced before the Colts suffered a blowout 42-7 loss at the Jacksonville Jaguars that dropped Indianapolis to 2-6 on Sunday. On Monday morning, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated shared an interesting nugget of information regarding Taylor's uncertain future.
According to Breer, the 4-2-1 New York Giants and 6-1 Minnesota Vikings "have been most aggressive in looking for running backs on the trade market the last couple weeks."
One October report hinted that Giants head coach John Harbaugh could want to replace Cam Skattebo as the club's lead ball-carrier via an in-season trade. However, Skattebo then rushed for a team-high 124 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in New York's 27-21 overtime win at the Houston Texans on Oct. 25. It's unclear whether that performance could convince Harbaugh that he doesn't need to make a big splash at the position.
The Giants next play at a struggling Philadelphia Eagles (2-6) side on Nov. 8.
As for the Vikings, their offense has often left much to be desired this season with Kyler Murray serving as their starting quarterback. According to ESPN stats, Minnesota began Monday ranked 29th in the league with 279.4 yards gained per game and 27th with an average of 20 points scored per contest. The Vikings seem to feature a championship-caliber defense, so making an all-in move to acquire Taylor could be a wise business decision for the NFC North side.
For a Casino.org story published on Monday, NFL insider Jason La Canfora spoke with an unnamed general manager who said that "he believes the Colts want a second-round (draft) pick for Taylor."
"I expect him to be traded," La Canfora added about Taylor.
It remains to be seen whether the Giants, Vikings or a different team will help prove La Canfora right at some point over the next week.
