Pat Murphy has finally shed light on the wild stray the New York Yankees caught after the Milwaukee Brewers won the 2026 World Series.
Apparently, the two-time National League Manager of the Year wasn’t really taking shots at the Bronx Bombers. His use of profanity to refer to the American League East club while celebrating the Brewers’ World Series title with first baseman Jake Bauers on the field was nothing more than “rhetoric.”
“After every celebration, I’d shake his hand and I’d say, ‘You rich so-and-so, you’re going to leave us,'” Murphy said during a recent appearance on the New York Post’s “The Show” podcast.
“We’re not going to be able to pay you. You’re going to leave us, and you’re going to forget all about how we did things. … I would just give him this rhetoric every time.”
The 62-year-old Murphy also revealed that he reached out to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman after the clip went viral.
Bauers had a breakout 2026 season and is looking at a big payday this offseason, especially if he declines the Brewers’ $23.15 million qualifying offer. He gave his free-agent stock a big shot in the arm by winning NL Championship Series MVP honors, hitting .286 and driving in six runs during the Brewers’ four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
