Kon Knueppel's season debut cut short by injury after just six minutes

After a 3-5 start to the season, the Charlotte Hornets were hopeful that the season debut for sharpshooter Kon Knueppel on Wednesday would be a major spark.

That lasted just six minutes, though, as Knueppel's night was cut short due to injury, a worrisome sign for what many hoped would be a promising season debut.

Kon Knueppel is dealing with another leg injury

Knueppel played just six minutes Wednesday before exiting the game with what Charlotte called left leg soreness. He came up limping after multiple possessions before eventually leaving the game.

Knueppel missed the first eight games of the season after suffering a left hamstring injury in training camp. It appeared that he may have re-aggravated the injury, something that will be revealed in the coming days.

In his six minutes of action, Knueppel scored three points, all of which came on free throws. He missed his lone shot from the field and had two turnovers before exiting.

Charlotte needs Kon Knueppel to be healthy

A major reason that the Hornets decided to revamp their roster in the offseason was due to Knueppel's brilliance as a rookie.

In the 2025-26 season, Knueppel finished second in Rookie of the Year voting and became the first rookie in NBA history to lead the NBA in three-pointers made. He was a star from the moment he took the floor and he was expected to provide much of the same this season as one of Charlotte's primary scorers.

Knueppel's availability is a key component for the Hornets to have another successful season. If he did indeed re-aggravate his hamstring injury and is forced to miss an extended period of time, Charlotte is headed toward its 11th straight season without a playoff appearance.
