When a golden horse struts into the arena with a mane and tail like that of a fairy-tail unicorn, it's hard not to be just completely star-struck -- like seeing a Hollywood movie star. Which just so happens to be the name of the famed golden stallion, Latigo Dun It, or as his fans know him, "Hollywood."
This stunning stallion earned celebrity status a long time ago in the rodeo world. His owner, Tomas Garcilazo, is a native of Mexico City who grew up learning charro-trick roping. Garcilazo and Hollywood captivated audiences across both countries with their impressive lasso loops and sliding stops.
The incredible team has brought the art, tradition, and culture of charro-trick roping to many different stages across North America. Mostly known for performing at the National Finals Rodeo, Garcilazo debuted at the 1998 NFR and has been a staple ever since. While Garcilazo has had many incredible horses join him in the arena, Hollywood is likely the most famous.
Today, January 31, 2024, Garilazo went to social media to announce that Hollywood is bowing out of performing gracefully and will enter his retirement years. At the age of 22 and after earning incredible famed status, the great palomino stallion deserves every minute of relaxation.
The 2023 NFR was an exceptional way to wrap up this stallion's NFR appearances. He carried the South Dakota Governor, Kristi Noem, along with many other cowgirls, around the arena, proudly waving the American flag while the entire crowd sang along to the National Anthem.
Hollywood also got the opportunity to carry country music sensation Lainey Willson to the stage during her performance of the NFR. The pair of beautiful blondes had audiences in awe as they graced the Thomas and Mac Arena.
"Hollywood has made the call and gracefully bowed out of the spotlight." Garcilazo announced via social media, "It is hard to think that he won't be on the road with us and that his fans won't get to see him in the arena."
This stallion touched the hearts and lives of many people, even outside the rodeo industry, earning him his very own Breyer model horse. Garcilazo and Hollywood even made an appearance at the 30th anniversary of Breyerfest.
Many rodeos, especially the NFR, won't feel the same without the spotlights reflecting off of Hollywood's luscious locks while Garcilazo wows the crowd, but he definitely has earned his retirement.
Garcilazo said it best, "Happy retirement to our golden boy, superstar."
