The Nike SB Dunk Low Pro x Bronx Girls Skate is officially available today and the Bronx Girls themselves—Mel Ramirez and Kava Vasquez—are here to break down the inspiration, references, and intention behind the bold design.
This shoe is way more than just another Nike SB Dunk collab—it's for the city that shaped Mel and Kava... and the countless people they've inspired along the way. Take a look:
"Created in 2020 by Mel Ramirez and Kava Vasquez to give the thriving women’s skate scene at River Avenue Skatepark their gold, Bronx Girls Skate’s grassroots approach continues to carve out new spaces throughout New York City," Nike SB mentioned on Instagram. "For their first collaboration with Nike SB, the Bronx Girls Skate Dunk Low reinterprets the iconic colors of NYC transit with an Uptown homage to the Boogie Down."
Mel and Kava have been holding it down with Bronx Girls Skate for years, fighting the good fight and pushing hard to make skateboarding more welcoming and accessible for girls and women across NYC. What they do is super admirable and what they've built is extremely inspiring.
They’re always on the move, organizing meet-ups, running workshops, and throwing skate events all across the five boroughs, so to say this milestone is well-deserved just wouldn't be saying enough. This collaboration is something to celebrate, and we're so stoked to see it come to life. Congrats to all involved!
The Nike SB Dunk Low by Bronx Girls Skate drops today Friday, January 23 in select shops and Tuesday, January 27 in SNKRS.
