Red Bull Origin, a challenge-based skateboarding event that celebrates skateboarding’s past, present and future, culminated with Sky Brown and Jhancarlos Gonzalez winning Best Overall awards. The competition featured a multigenerational lineup of the world’s top skaters, with $50,000 awarded across specialty categories, individual zone wins and overall crowns.
The weekend showcased competition, culture and community, with fans lining each zone to see their favorite skaters take on rebuilt versions of iconic Venice skate spots. The features included the fire hydrant made famous by Natas Kaupas, the Venice hubba, the Venice Pavilion wallride and the double-kink rail first conquered by Mark “Gonz” Gonzales. The main event broadcasted live on Red Bull Skateboarding YouTube, with on-air commentary provided by Selema Masekela, Amelia Brodka and special guests.
“Venice Beach is where I fell in love with skateboarding and skated in front of a crowd for the first time,” said women’s Best Overall winner Sky Brown. “Being able to come back, put on a show and get the crowd cheering where it all started was really special!”
“Winning is an amazing feeling, but I skate for the love of it and events like this,” said men’s Best Overall winner Jhancarlos Gonzalez. “It was great to see skaters from all generations come together and show what the skateboarding community is all about.”
“Skating original obstacles alongside legends and the next generation made it super fun,” said up-and-comer and Windward Plaza winner Julian Agliardi. “Red Bull Origin called back to what all started here.”
