Something big is going down in the world of skateboarding's most beloved video game, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater . The official website for the game recently launched a mysterious countdown on their homepage, set to end on March 4, leaving both diehard THPS fans and video game enthusiasts alike scratching their heads.
To add to the hype, multiple pro skateboarders and THPS alumni have been teasing the announcement as well, along with video game podcasters, including Kinda Funny Games who dug into the news a little deeper. Check the video below. The THPS talk starts around the 8:00 mark.
With the massive success of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Remastered in 2020, I have to assume that most folks are hoping this means another remake is on its way. Others are wondering if it could be a brand new game as a whole, and, well the conversation continues in all directions.
For those who don’t know, the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series was a game-changer when it dropped in 1999. It played a huge role in shaping skate culture and arguably introduced skateboarding to a global audience like nothing before it.
Personally, I played both Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 religiously when I was a kid. And even though I was already pretty obsessed with skating at the time, the game really amplified that obsession. I will say this, though—I never really got into the rest of them! But that's really neither here nor there.
Seeing all these photos of Tony Hawk, Eric Koston, Rodney Mullen, Kareem Campbell and Steve Caballero pop up recently has been a treat in itself, honestly. Nostalgia at its finest. The hype is real!
Regardless, come March 4, the skate/gaming worlds will certainly be watching. Stay tuned, because if history tells us anything, you know The Birdman is about to drop something big.
