10 Major Ski Resorts Closing This Weekend
Photo: VisualCommunications/Getty Images

For the lift-accessed ski season, April is the great closing date-studded-separator, and this weekend, a group of major North American ski resorts and ski areas are calling it quits. These are some major spots you'll need to visit ASAP if you want to catch their lifts before they stop spinning.

Every mountain on this list closes on April 6, 2025.

What Major Ski Resorts Are Closing This Weekend?

Big White Ski Resort, British Columbia

Whitewater Ski Resort, British Columbia

Buttermilk, Colorado (Aspen Mountain is scheduled to remain open until April 20)

Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Colorado

Keystone Resort, Colorado

Telluride Ski Resort, Colorado

Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico

Whitefish Mountain Resort, Montana

Sundance Mountain Resort, Utah

Mad River Glen, Vermont

Among the major mountains out West (excluding Mad River Glen, of course), these ski areas are some of the first to throw in the towel. Still, plenty of destinations, like Breckenridge or Whistler Blackcomb, plan to continue operating throughout April and into May.

For the safest spring skiing bet, consider planning a trip to Palisades Tahoe, Arapahoe Basin, or Mammoth Mountain—these three resorts are typically among the latest open in North America.

Mammoth and Palisades are targeting Memorial Day as their final day of operations (Mammoth may remain open longer), while Arapahoe Basin hasn't announced a closing date yet. Last season, Arapahoe Basin closed on June 16.

That's all to say that, provided you know where to look, there are a good two months left of lift-accessed spring skiing. Then, when all the resorts finally begin to wind down, motivated backcountry skiers can start thinking about ticking off volcanoes and other high-altitude ascents under the spring and summer sun. Barring a backcountry excursion, you could head to the southern hemisphere, too.
