The latest edition of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort's premiere freeride competition, Kings & Queens of Corbet's Couloir, went down on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Temperatures hovered in the single digits, but winds remained calm, and despite a brief 30-minutes of cloud cover, spectators were treated to a fantastic view of the entire course from the viewing area at the bottom of Ten Sleep Bowl.
I had the pleasure of standing atop the cornice as athletes hucked themselves into North America's most famous trail. In a word, it was, incredible.
I'm working on a longer piece about my experience watching the competition in person for the first time, but in the meantime, let's take a gander at the Top 9 Moments of Kings & Queens of Corbet's Couloir 2025.
With so many big sends and moments, this was hard to whittle down. Feel free to tell me what I got right and what I got wrong! This list is focused specifically on the skiing side of the comp.
Two quick notes before you check out the list.
1. Skiers and riders will self-judge and crown the winners on Friday, February 14, 2025. The results will be revealed to the public the following day.
2. The videos below are mostly pulled from Instagram. Tap or click each video to watch.
Reigning Queen of Corbet's Couloir Clair McPherson did what she does best— lay down a clean run with impeccable grace and agility.
Rather than hucking a backflip or big trick like other competitors, McPherson opted for a buttery smooth straight air into Corbet's. She then carried the speed from her landing into the natural wind lip and threw one of the cleanest backflips of the day.
Then, just when you thought McPherson would throw another flip on the moon-booter at the bottom, she pulled off a massive spread eagle that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Video below courtesy of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Reigning King Colby Stevenson left Kings & Queens slightly disappointed due to crashes in both of his runs, but his creativity and style were on full display with his entrances into Corbet's Couloir.
I posted up behind the lip to capture the video below. Watching Stevenson throw a 180-bounce over the edge of the couloir literally made my knees shake. The clip below is good, but witnessing this attempt in person was something I'll never forget.
Ana Essyimont was invited to Kings & Queens of Corbet's 2024, but since the competition was cancelled due to low snowfall, she had to wait until 2025 to show the skiing world that she means business.
Similar to McPherson, Essyimont launched a clean straight air into the Couloir that she made look way to easy. Her powder-filled backflip and clean grab on the moon-booter was the icing on the cake. It's hard to determine which athlete will come up on top, but Essyimont made a fantastic case to be crowned Queen.

My ignorance showed when I asked an employee of Jackson Hole who Lalo Rambaud was. I hadn't heard of the flying Frenchman from La Clusaz (same home mountain as Candide Thovex), but after Kings & Queens '25, I have a feeling the skier simply known as 'Lalo' is here to stay.
Lalo threw a jaw-dropping double backflip that seemed to make time stand still. While he didn't stick a clean landing, the attempt was incredible. Check it out below.
'Krazy' Karl Fostvedt, a multiple-time King of Corbet's Couloir, gracefully bowed out of the competition a couple of weeks ago to pursue other focuses in his storied career as a professional skier. With the announcement coming so close to the event, JHMR allowed Fostvedt to pick his replacement. Enter Ridge Dirksmeier.
Dirskmeier was the third athlete to drop, and his double front flip took everybody by surprise. Check it out below.
Former Queen of Corbet's Piper Kunst is a hucker and a half. On her second run of the comp, she went for it all on a back-scratching backflip into the couloir.
Her landing was rough, including a fairly violent tomahawk, but Kunst popped back up and finished her run with the style and power she's known for.
I had made way down to the spectator corral at this point, and when Kunst was greeted by her fellow competitors, she simply exclaimed, "I'm all good. That didn't hurt at all!" Badass.

I filmed this clip from the far looker's left of the cornice of Corbet's Couloir. Perched high atop a rocky point, I got the perfect view of Hackel's mind-melting Hand Drag Cork 7 entrance into Corbet's.
On a day when athletes were struggling to stomp clean landings, Hackel seemed to float down into the couloir almost as if he hadn't just thrown one of the best tricks of the entire competition.
I spoke with Hackel afterwards. He gave me a telling reaction to what has just occurred. "Man, I was nervous. I'm so glad that's over." Watch below.
Apologies for my audile, "YES", at the end of the clip. I was so happy Hackel landed cleanly that I couldn't help myself.
Who is Tristen Lilly...?
Well, after Kings & Queens of Corbet's Couloir 2025, I have a good feeling we'll see this Utah ripper appear on our social media feeds for years to come.
Lilly introduced himself to the world of freeskiing by throwing what can only be described as a death-defying trick. Just when it appeared that Lilly wouldn't be able to bring it around to land regular, he threw a steezy shifty and rode it out like a champ.
His cat-like reflexes are being celebrated by skiers from across the world in the comments section of the video below. Also, his Instagram handle @____pants, is perhaps the best in the industry. Just saying.

The nerves exuding from the athletes before Kings & Queens of Corbet's was quite noticeable. As I rode the Aerial Tram with them, I could tell that each was trying to get in the zone for the insanity that they were about to attempt.
Just as the tension started to feel thick enough to cut with a knife, Tim McChesney dropped first and blew everybody's minds. An absolutely stomped dub cork 10 entrance and a switch 10 on the moon-booter sent every athlete into a hyped up frenzy. The comp was on.
McChesney's run was so good that he opted to not take a second. It's hard to tell how the athletes will judge, but there's no doubt in my mind that he'll end up in the Top 3, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's crowned King.
