If everything goes to plan, Brian Head may become the first open ski resort in Utah.
On Tuesday, August 13, 2025, Brian Head Resort announced that it plans to open for skiers and snowboarders on November 7, 2025, a week ahead of Solitude Mountain Resort, which previously said it wanted to first spin its lifts on November 14, 2025.
Last winter, Brian Head started up winter operations on November 8, just an hour after Solitude Mountain Resort, which opened at 9 a.m. and was the 2024 Utah frontrunner, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. But in 2022, Brian Head opened on November 4, successfully notching the first open in Utah title.
Lift tickets for the first few days of the season at Brian Head are already available and, at the time of writing this, cost between $17 and $21. The ski resort uses a dynamic pricing model, so prices will increase as more skiers and snowboarders snap up lift tickets.

This coming season, Brian Head said that it will continue operating daily until May 10, 2026, conditions permitting.
Ahead of the winter, the ski resort has made $1.4 million in investments. They include improved snowmaking on Navajo Mountain, which, according to Brian Head, will allow beginner and intermediate terrain to open earlier and stay open later.
The resort has also expanded its rental fleet with 400 new pairs of skis and 250 new snowboards, including a selection of HEAD Performance Snowboards. A new SMS system is set to deliver powder alerts, mountain conditions, lift and trail updates, and event information.
Per a list compiled by Ski Utah, Brian Head and Solitude Mountain Resort are the only two resorts in Utah to have announced opening dates so far. Last season, other major destinations in the state, like Alta Ski Area, Park City, and Deer Valley, opened well after Brian Head in late November.
Alta, for example, started last season on November 22. So if your goal is to make lift-served ski turns as soon as possible, Brian Head appears to be the best bet—or Solitude Mountain Resort, depending on how the Utah pre-season pans out.
