Copper Mountain, Colorado, one of the state's largest in terms of total skiable terrain, has announced their projected opening date for the Winter '24/'25 season as Friday, November 5, 2024, weather and conditions permitting, of course.

The resort has made a concerted effort through early-season snowmaking in recent years to compete with the likes of Keystone, CO; Arapahoe Basin, CO; and Loveland Ski Area, CO as the first ski resort open in North America. It's unlikely that none of these perennial favorites won't open prior to November 5th, but crazier things have happened.

Don't be surprised when Copper posts videos of the first snowmaking session sometime in early to mid-October. They'll want to start building a substantial base as early as possible to prepare for such an early opening. Copper is also known to host U.S. Ski Team members for private sessions before the slopes open to the public. Mikaela Shiffrin, among other U.S. stars, have logged October training sessions at Copper before traveling to Europe to begin their World Cup seasons.

It's September, and while the earliest opening days are still at least a month away (we're looking at you Arapahoe Basin...), the slow trickle of ski resort news has all of us here at POWDER excited for the coming season. We'll continue to keep you covered on opening dates, first snowfalls, new chairlifts, and more.
