Come one, come all and feast your eyes on a new film by British Columbia based filmmaker, Joey Kraft.
Standing just under twenty minutes in length, the film features the skiing of seven different athletes with about as much variety in terrain as you can pack into the fast-paced run time. The film has something for everyone between big mountain segments like Tristan Underhill’s heavy-metal backed spine segment and Luca Natale’s ability to have equally good style on pillow lines and urban rails.
Alongside Underhill and Natale, the film features Jacob Belanger, Jonathan Rollins, Shonny Charbonneau, William Fossum, and Jake Sandstrom and was filmed in Nelson, BC and the Sea to Sky corridor. Tap to watch the film in its entirety, for free, below:
My personal favorite segment had to be Shonny Charbonneau’s epic street segment, and not just because it was backed by one of my all-time favorite Rihanna songs.
There’s something about watching Charbonneau ski that just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and like I want to go hit park features way out of my depth. Jacob Belanger also deserves more than an honorable mention for his segment. Belanger’s skiing takes us from the streets of Nelson to the Whistler backcountry and slots some odd-triangle shaped features in the middle. The film concludes with Belanger hitting a massive jump in the backcountry and landing switch before skiing out of the frame. Epic.
Of course, films would be nothing without the folks that make them, and it’s obvious watching The Harvest, that filmmaker Joey Kraft is a master of, well, his craft. The film strikes as good a balance between b-roll moments and ski shots as it does park skiing and big mountain. As a viewer, I never felt lost or like any segment felt unfinished or underdelivered.
Kraft’s cinematography did well to artfully showcase location, scale, and skiing. Perhaps most importantly, (although I guess it depends who you ask), he absolutely nailed the soundtrack. I could talk about how much I like the film all day, but really, you should just give it a watch.
