Two of the continent’s last open major ski resorts, Mammoth Mountain, California and Arapahoe Basin, Colroado are finally calling it quits this weekend on June 15, 2025. Once they close, the pool of places to spin lift-accessed turns will be significantly smaller, so if you’re keen on making the most of this ski season, they’re worth a visit.
Here’s what you need to know about closing weekend operations at both mountains.

Mammoth Mountain, Californi, is open all the way through June 15. Lift tickets are available online, but if you have an Ikon Pass, you can still cash in on unlimited access at the ski resort.
What’s open and skiable? Broadway Express, Face Lift Express, and Chair 23 are all spinning daily from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. While the snowpack is dwindling, the latter chairlift is one of the best places in the country (and probably on earth) to score steep, slushy late-season turns. Sunny weather in the forecast adds to the allure, but make sure you bring sunscreen and apply it liberally—the glare from the snow can and will give you the worst sunburn of your life.
Skiing isn’t the only draw at Mammoth Mountain, though. The ski resort’s bike park operations are in full swing, and the local golf course, Sierra Star, is open with a championship course perched at 8,000 feet. To facilitate “trifecta” days, Mammoth Mountain is selling bundled lift tickets that provide access to the resort’s skiing, biking, and golfing. If braving the green isn’t your thing, you can just add a discounted bike park ticket to your ski lift ticket at checkout.
Come June 15, early birds will be rewarded at Mammoth Mountain with free coffee and donuts at 7:30 a.m. at McCoy Station while supplies last. A final run and group photo is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. at The Summit.
Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, won’t reopen until Friday, June 13. Then, from Friday through Saturday, it’ll serve up the season’s last lift-served turns. During this last hurrah, Arapahoe Basin plans to have the Black Mountain Express and Lenawee Express open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., servicing the ski resort’s frontside terrain, which includes the popular all-natural pond skim spot, Lake Reveal.
At the time of writing this, tickets to Arapahoe Basin start at $88 and vary in cost depending on which day you plan to ski. Full Ikon Pass holders during the 2024-2025 season received seven days of access to the ski resort, so if you didn’t blow all your days this past winter, now is the time to do so (next winter, full Ikon Pass holders will have unlimited access to Arapahoe Basin).
On June 15, Arapahoe Basin will host live music in its base area. Costumes for the send-off aren’t mandatory, but they are highly encouraged. Spring skiing, if anything, is an opportunity to get silly and crazy (within reason), so don’t be shy about letting your freak flag fly. Some retro straight skis from the 1980s pair well with bumps and slush, we hear.
As of now, Beartooth Basin, Wyoming, the unique summer-only ski area, has a tentative closing date of June 15. Then, there’s Timberline Lodge, Oregon, which will continue offering skiing deep into the summer. Aside from Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain is keeping the Colorado ski season going with a hike park that features a number of freestyle features. Just outside New York City, you can also ski year-round at Big Snow American Dream, an indoor ski resort with real snow.
