Lindsey Vonn had been retired for over five years when she elected to undergo a partial knee replacement to fix chronic aches and pains from years of skiing.
The surgery took place in April of 2024. Since then, Vonn has made an unthinkable comeback to the World Cup circuit, finished in second place in Super-G at the 24/25 World Cup Finals in Sun Valley, Idaho, and is now vying to compete in her fifth Olympics at the 2026 Milan-Cortina games.
Vonn's Instagram post on June 1, 2025 documents her progress through the knee replacement journey with a series of photos and videos. Notably, a video clip shortly after surgery shows just how limited her knee's range of motion was. It's hard to believe she was able to strengthen it enough to compete on a World Cup race course less than a year later.

Vonn writes in the caption that she's, "in a much different place now" following over a year of training, rehab, and competing on the world stage.
The post includes an image and a short video of Vonn back on the cycling grind this summer, one of her notable off-season pastimes and training methods.
As mentioned before, Vonn is vying for her fifth Olympic team, no small feat for a 40-year-old with a partially replaced knee, but this is Lindsey Vonn we're talking about. She's won an astounding 82 World Cup races in her career and has an Olympic Gold Medal to her name.
There's a long road of offseason training and World Cup races before the 2026 games in Milan-Cortina, but The U.S. Ski Team and NBC are already getting ahead of the game. Vonn participated in a studio shoot to film b-Roll and other clips for the upcoming Olympic broadcasts.
