Lindsey Vonn and the rest of the sports world is heartbroken this Friday due to the death of an 18-year-old skier.
Margot Simond passed away on Thursday due to a training accident. According to reports, she sustained a fall on the slopes while preparing for the Red Bull Alpine event.
The cause of death for Simond has not yet been announced. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation has already released a statement on this tragedy.
"The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has learned with great sadness of the tragic passing of Margot Simond, a promising young athlete from the Savoie Ski Committee and the Club des Sports des Saisies, who died on April 24, 2025, in Val d’Isère," a statement from the FIS said. "Our thoughts are with the French Ski Federation, the Savoie Ski Committee, the Club des Sports des Saisies, and the entire ski community, who are deeply affected by the loss of Margot. FIS extends its heartfelt condolences to Margot’s family and loved ones and offers its full support in this incredibly difficult time."
Vonn, a three-time Olympic medalist, offered her condolences to the Simond family this week.
"Sincere condolences to the family," Vonn wrote on Instagram.
Mikaela Shiffrin, who holds the record for most World Cup wins for a skier, also let the public know that her heart goes out to Simond's loved ones.
Simond, an under-18 slalom champion, recently competed in the 2025 FIS Junior World Championships in Tarvisio, Italy.
