Mammut has issued a voluntary recall on their newly-released Barryvox 2 and Barryvox S2 avalanche beacons, due to a potential malfunction with the unit's power switch. It is possible that the unit can inadvertently switch modes between search and send, or turn itself off.

Here's what Mammut says about the recall:

The potential malfunction is based on an assembly issue. As a result, the main switch on the affected devices may be misaligned leading to unintentional switching from Send to Search mode with lateral pressure, or possibly even turning the device off completely. This defect can pose a potential safety risk to users and requires rectification. Upon identifying this issue, we conducted a 100 percent inspection of our stock, confirming that only Barryvox 2 and Barryvox S2 models may be impacted. The Barryvox and Barryvox S models from previous seasons are not affected by this issue.

If you own one of these beacons, Mammut asks you return it, free of charge, for inspection and replacement. Go to Mammut's return form and fill in your information to send your unit back, or dropping it off at a Mammut store. The company will check and send a replacement within seven business days.
