Freeride skiing is an unforgiving sport.

Few know this fact better than professional skier Jess Hotter, who took an incredibly scary spill during a 2022 Freeride World Tour run at Fieberbrunn, Austria.

While this crash was unquestionably one of the most violent the FWT has seen, Hotter reportedly walked away mostly unscathed with a "sore knee." It's funny how that works out sometimes.

Hotter, who went on to take the overall FWT title in 2022, has an upcoming opportunity to return to the big leagues this month. She's received a wildcard invitation to the FWT's North American Challenger Series. This circuit pits top qualifier athletes against the lowest 2024 FWT-ranked athletes—plus some wildcards thrown in the mix—to see who will appear on the 2025 Tour.

She'll have some tough competition in the likes of Addison Rafford, Piper Kunst, and Molly Armanino.

While Hotter didn't appear on the FWT this winter, her time off—at least based on her Instagram page—seems to have provided plenty of opportunities to get rowdy, including stomped backflips and new trick attempts.

The first stop of the Challenger Series is later this month in Crested Butte, Colorado. Stay tuned to the FWT's social media, where a live stream link will be shared.
