Salt Lake City, UT skiers love it and vacationers are drawn to it, but Snowbird's Mineral Basin Chairlift will remain closed for at least the next week, according to Maeve G., Snowbird's Snow/Mountain Reporter.
The ever-popular chair has been out of operation since February 28, 2025. According to various social media posts by Snowbird, the lift requires a new gear hub before welcoming skiers and snowboarders again. The resort initially expected to complete repairs by tomorrow, March 8, but heavy snowfall is hampering their efforts.
Snowbird's snowfall has fluctuated this season, but March came in with a bang. Maeve's snow report for today, March 7, is quite telling. The resort is reporting seven inches overnight, 19 inches in the last 24 hours, 26 inches in the last 48 hours, and 51 inches in the last seven days.
Translation: it's been dumping all week in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and more is on the way. According to OpenSnow, up to 22 inches of snow could fall between March 12 and March 16th.

"All equipment is on-site and will be installed following this major winter storm," writes Maeve G. on Snowbird's snow report. "We expect the lift to reopen next week. Mineral Basin, Baldy and the connection to Alta will remain closed until Mineral Basin chairlift reopens. Thank you for your patience."
Despite Mineral Basin's extended closure, Snowbird is expected to have 11 of 14 lifts in operation today. With feet of fresh snow over the last week, powder hungry skiers and snowboarders should be able to satisfy their desires without Mineral Basin for the time being.
Considering Mineral Basin's popularity, POWDER will continue to update this story as more information about the chair's status is revealed.
If you're planning on visiting Snowbird this week, be sure to check UDOT and the resort's status reports. Little Cottonwood Canyon was placed on a brief 'Interlodge Status' this morning as UDOT performed avalanche mitigation along SR 210.
