Gather 'round, POWDER readers, it's story time.
A couple weeks ago, I tasked myself with delivering a selection of my favorite music in ski films as an excuse to watch my favorite ski film while I was working. By sheer coincidence, a number of those songs happen to appear in either films that feature Sammy Carlson, or are in his own personal projects. The man has great taste in music.
Upon going to search for some of these projects, I was utterly dismayed that I couldn't find some of them anywhere on YouTube or the greater internet. I panicked. How am I supposed to want to go skiing if I can't watch Resilience first??? How am I supposed to show people how hard WAM goes without YUP to prove it??
Amongst my panic, I reached out to Sammy, ready to beg for links to the films. Being the kind and accommodating person he is, he reassured me that his films would be reposted to his YouTube channel shortly and I need not worry.
As promised, Sammy has returned YUP, Kamase, and North of Now to his channel, and I can only hope that Resilience is not far behind. Grown, Vision, and Echo are still up there, as is his first ever film segment from Poor Boyz Productions' War, which celebrates the 20 year anniversary of Sammy's career this year.
Consider this article an honorary mention for more of my favorite songs in films. YUP has both 'WAM' by A$AP Ferg and ' No More Tears' by Ozzy Osbourne to showcase the dichotomy of genres that both go super hard when set to Sammy's skiing, but are vastly different. It's *chef's kiss.* Kamase gives us even more A$AP Ferg bangers with 'New Level' in potentially the best use of that song ever.
So, friends, turn the lights down, speakers up, and kick back to re-enjoy some of Sammy's best films and the incredible soundtracks that go with them.
