North Lake Tahoe's Professional Skier Ryan Faye admitted the truth about backcountry skiing with POV posted to his Instagram recently. "90% of my backcountry skiing experiences involve skiing really bad snow, so it was refreshing last Saturday to get some actual honest-to-god blower pow with an awesome crew."

"Wait till the end to see me run tips-first into a buried boulder and smash my ankle "

Ryan Faye has been skiing Palisades Tahoe (Squ*w Valley) since he was two years old, and he was part of the Mighty Mites program growing up.

Now, he works in civil engineering and obviously sends it just as hard as when he was a kid.

Faye points out an interesting aspect of ski culture. Skiers love to talk about good conditions, finding white rooms, getting face shots, and chasing powder.

But skiing happens when the snow is low, too. And oftentimes, lines aren't even exposed when the snow levels get too high.

Low tide skiing can be the best kind!

Ryan Faye puts out a lot of content that makes his skiing conditions look pretty perfect, like this clip below.

But Ryan's no stranger to being ironic when it comes to using social media, so I assume he'd be critical of people's posting ski footage of only good conditions.

And he defies the laws of social media influencing by commenting on the reality of backcountry skiing instead of pretending it's perfect all the time.

We appreciate the realism. Because, let's face it: things aren't perfect all the time. But if you're putting the work into skinning up into the backcountry, chances are you don't really care.
