West Virginia's Largest Ski Resort Starts Week With Fresh Snow

The new snow was a welcome change after a period of wet and warm weather that forced Snowshoe to close its Silver Creek area a week earlier than planned.

"It is important that we now concentrate our operational resources on the Basin and Western Territory areas," Snowshoe wrote in an operations update shared yesterday, March 10th.

Of course, the early closure was bookended by a silver lining in the form of fresh snowfall and colder temperatures, allowing Snowshoe to make snow in the Basin and Western Territory areas. The resort plans to remain open for skiing and riding until the end of the month.

Today, about half of Snowshoe's terrain and lifts are open, with the resort noting that "there are areas with thin cover."

Temperatures at the resort are expected to increase throughout the week, with a high near 60 degrees possible on Thursday.
