Nick Baumgartner needs to find a new mixed team boardercross partner, but it’s for the best reason possible.

U.S. Olympic rider Lindsey Jacobellis is pregnant. The 39-year-old won two gold medals at the 2022 Olympics, one individual and one team with Baumgartner. She is the most decorated boarder cross rider in event history, with five world championships and 10 X Games titles.

“I just wanted to catch up with you, because obviously I haven’t been on tour with you for a couple races and it feels a little odd, but I’ve just been taking some time. How’s the body feeling?” she started the call with Baumgartner off with.

“I was calling to let you know about our team race, I just wanted to announce that I can’t be your teammate for the next race because I got a new teammate.”

Jacobellis then turned the camera to her baby bump.

“What the heck’s going on there? Holy cow, I was wondering!” Baumgartner said with a big smile.

Jacobellis helped Baumgartner achieve his long-awaited dream of winning an Olympic medal at the age of 40. The two were the only riders in the entire field to have been born in the 1980s. That victory provided Jacobellis with her third Olympic medal in five Games. She won silver in 2006.

Snowboard’s world championships start March 20, 2025 in Switzerland. Snowbaordcross finals will go down March 28 and March 29, 2025.

Baumgartner found himself back on the podium two weeks ago at a World Cup stop in Turkey, breaking a two and a half year podium drought. The 43 year old qualified for his third Olympics at that same venue back in 2018 just weeks after breaking his back. He even managed to take third place after his luggage was lost on the flight over, forcing him to wear a different jersey for the qualifiers.

“I had a blast out there, and that energy kept me riding smart and fast,” he told the U.S. Snowboard Team’s Sadie Texer. “With each round I advanced, I felt that proud, exciting, butterflies-in-my-stomach feeling, half giggle and half tearing up, the kind of feeling you can’t buy, only earn through hard work, discipline, and over coming adversity...and in this case a 2.5 year podium drought."
