£12m bargain deal to solve defensive problems at Manchester United

Manchester United are ready to battle top European clubs to sign Udinese defender Oumar Solet during the summer transfer window. Top clubs like Inter Milan, Lazio, Bournemouth and West Ham United are also interested in signing the French central defender.

Solet joined Udinese from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2025 and made an instant impression in the Serie A competition. His steep rise in reputation has provided Udinese with an opportunity to make a big profit in a short time.

Udinese finished 12th in the Serie A last season, a slight improvement on their position compared to the 2023-24 season. The Italian club could benefit by making a pure profit after signing the Frenchman as a free agent from Salzburg.

The 25-year-old defender made 19 appearances for Udinese in the Serie A, contributing one goal and two assists last season. Standing at 1.92 metres, the Frenchman plays at the left central defensive position in Udinese’s preferred back-three defensive formation.

Solet is a modern-day ball-playing defender, with a variety of long passing range in his disposal, helping him build up play. At 25 years of age, Solet has just entered the prime year of his career and has all the potential.

According to the Italian publication TuttoUdinese.it , United want Solet from Udinese to bolster their defence during the summer transfer window. The Red Devils’ senior team struggled to adjust to Ruben Amorim’s tactics and needs a massive squad overhaul this summer.

Opposition constantly exploited the defensive fragility of United, while the defenders failed to build up play as Amorim’s style desired. Solet already has a good knowledge of the back-three formation, which Amorim prefers and possesses all the qualities tactically required.

According to transfermarkt, Solet has a €14m (around £12m) valuation, which is a bargain price for United, who are struggling financially. Udinese would earn a pure profit for anything around that price, and United need to capitalise on such shrewd business to accomplish multiple deals.
