Arsenal teenager Max Dowman has quickly emerged as one of the club’s brightest prospects, drawing attention throughout preseason and the early stages of the Premier League campaign. All signs suggest the Gunners have an elite talent on their hands.
After breaking several age-related records, Dowman is now on the verge of history once again after being named in Arsenal’s 23-man Champions League squad for the 2025-26 season.
At just 15, he could become the youngest player ever to feature in the competition, surpassing Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko, who made his debut at 16 years and 18 days against Zenit Saint Petersburg in December 2020.

His inclusion is a bold move from manager Mikel Arteta, highlighting both Arsenal’s faith in the midfielder and his rapid rise through the ranks. Since joining the academy in 2015, Dowman has built a reputation for technical ability, composure and maturity well beyond his years.
"It is special," Arteta told reporters, via TalkSport, after a pre-season win over Newcastle in July. "Obviously what he's done today against this team in the time that he had on the pitch, it's something certainly not common to witness for a 15-year-old. So, we are extremely happy to have him.
"I think, again, the environment that is around him, his family, the people at the club, the academy as well."
UEFA regulations shaped Arsenal’s decision. Players listed on List B must have been registered with their club for two years after their 15th birthday. Born in December 2009, Dowman does not yet meet that requirement, meaning Arsenal had to include him on the senior List A to ensure eligibility.
The young attacking midfielder has already written his name into the record books domestically. He became the second-youngest player in Premier League history when he debuted at 15 years and 235 days, coming off the bench in a 5–0 win over Leeds United and winning a late penalty.
Moreover, he became the youngest ever scorer in the UEFA Youth League last season, aged just 14 years, 8 months and 19 days.
Now he has the opportunity to make his mark on Europe’s biggest stage before his 16th birthday. Should he feature during the group stage, Dowman would set a Champions League record that may stand for a while.
More broadly, his rapid progression reflects Arsenal’s commitment to nurturing elite academy talent. Following in the footsteps of Ethan Nwaneri, who also debuted at 15, Dowman’s rise is further evidence of Arteta’s willingness to trust youth in high-pressure environments.
