The time has come for Tottenham to up their ante in the transfer market as we reach the business-end of the summer window. The Lilywhites confirmed the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham earlier this month. But negotiations with other players have not gone smoothly since landing the Ghana international.
Now, the North London club must look to bolster its attack for the upcoming season if Thomas Frank wants to compete on all four fronts next season. Spurs are stacked at the back, and the one area they need strengthening in is the attack. There is a serious lack of firepower up front, and Daniel Levy must look to bring in some new forwards to make life easier for Thomas Frank.
The Lilywhites spent a fortune last summer on Dominic Solanke, but the club needs to assign some money on a new number nine yet again after the England international failed to perform consistently in his first season at N17. The 27-year-old admitted himself that he found life tough at the club during the initial months following his switch from Bournemouth.
Tottenham are looking to bolster their forward line and have targeted several players that could come in and compete with Solanke next season. One of those players is Juventus star Timothy Weah. The USA international was previously linked with a move to N17 last month, and it looks like the Lilywhites are about to get a massive boost in landing the 25-year-old.
The versatile forward’s agent has now opened up about Weah’s decision to head for pastures new in the summer, forcing Juventus to sell him in the coming weeks. Speaking to Get Italian Football News, Weah’s agent Badou Sambague has said,
“For the players, we cannot speak purely from the question of business, if you cannot make a deal with the club. I don’t care about making a deal with the club. We have to respect the player, especially if the player is on the right path or more than just on the right path.”
It is clear that the USA international does not see himself in Turin for the upcoming season. La Gazzetta dello Sport also reported that the Old Lady have slammed an asking price of €20m for the versatile striker. Keeping that in mind, Spurs should go all-in for Timothy Weah as he is value for money, and he can operate in different positions up front as well.
The Lilywhites are already under pressure to secure a deal for a new forward following Richarlison and Heung-Min Son’s uncertain futures. Signing Weah would be a smart move as the North London club would get on a low fee and Daniel Levy could also assign funds on other areas of the pitch. He could also provide good cover to Solanke, and Thomas Frank could use him as an ‘impact sub’ to run at tired defenders in the last stretches of the game.
