Tottenham Hotspur were able to secure Champions League football for the 2025/26 campaign after winning the Europa League final against Manchester United, despite finishing 17th in the Premier League after an extremely underwhelming domestic campaign.
Now the Lilywhites are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season, with attacking reinforcements eyed. This comes after the inconsistent performances by several key players that led to poor displays in the Premier League.
Skipper Son Heung-min did not perform as per his usual standards this past campaign, while Richarlison’s injury struggles at N17 continued. Club-record signing Dominic Solanke also endured an up-and-down debut season in North London. Thus, it is not surprising that Tottenham have been linked with several attackers in recent weeks and months.
Spurs have been offered the opportunity to sign Leroy Sane by Bayern Munich of late. He becomes a free agent when his Bayern Munich contract expires at the end of June.
Bayern Munich have been unable to agree on a new contract with Leroy Sane thus far. They offered a three-year contract on a reduced salary, which the German forward has rejected. As things stand, he is on course to become a free agent.
Now, reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham believes while Sane would be a good signing for Tottenham, his high wages could prove a stumbling block for a move to happen.
“Tottenham do need some experienced players,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Sane has experience in abundance. He is a proven winner who can play in any of the front three positions. He has pace, trickery, and he scores goals and provides assists.
“I know some people will say that he is past his best. However, Tottenham need a couple of experienced players who have been there and done it. Therefore, I think Sane would be a good signing.
“However, do I think he’ll come to Tottenham? Probably not. I imagine he is already on £250,000-a-week and will want more than that. I just don’t see Tottenham offering the kind of money that would convince him to sign for us.”
Daniel Levy has plans to make a marquee signing this summer after holding an internal meeting with key decision makers earlier this week. Amid interest in several players from all across the globe, will that marquee signing be Sane?
We don’t think so. Sane has been a serial winner in his career with Manchester City and Bayern Munich. He has an envious CV that only a few could match, and while the forward is also a proven Premier League commodity, the 29-year-old just does not fit the category of signings Tottenham have been renowned making in recent years. Plus, Levy would be unlikely to disrupt the club’s wage structure by agreeing to his high salary demands.
So, unless Sane agrees to take a wage cut and the club cashes in on Son Heung-min, a move to Tottenham in the summer doesn’t appear realistic.
