3 Premier League Managers on the Hot Seat

Which Premier League Managers most on the hot seat in the early season?

The Premier League is widely regarded as the most competitive league in the world. With the high level of competition comes a ridiculously high expectation of success, an expectation that many managers fail to reach.

The Premier League has statistically been the most volatile league in Europe due to the financial pressure and countless eyes on the teams. The Premier League spends more than every other league in the world by an obscene margin. Even lower table English clubs spend more than some of Europe’s elite in other leagues.

Countless managers are already on the hot seat to start the season, with some looking increasingly likely to be dismissed in the near future.

Roberto De Zerbi – Tottenham Hotspur

De Zerbi was appointed as Spurs permanent manager in March of 2026 after successful stints at Brighton and Marseille. The start to the season has been far from what fans have hoped for however.

Spurs currently sit dead last in the Premier League with only three points in six games. Spurs are the only team yet to win a single game this season, having three draws and three losses.

This comes after a monumental summer transfer window, spending $425 million on bringing in new players. Tottenham statistically have one of the worst teams in England on both ends of the pitch. They have scored a league low three goals this season, while allowing nine goals scored.

If Tottenham fail to win against Coventry City, De Zerbi’s dismissal could be within the coming weeks. Tottenham is past the point of panic and needs something to change now before relegation becomes a serious concern.

Michael Carrick – Manchester United

Manchester United currently has their worst start to a season in over 40 years under Carrick, with the team looking wholly uninspired on a weekly basis.

United only has one win in seven matches, having not won a game since matchweek two against Ipswich Town. They have been on the receiving end off bad losses to start the season, losing 2-0 to newly promoted Hull City, losing 1-0 to 10 men Manchester City, and giving up late ties to both Everton and Tottenham.

Outside of the Premier League they have not fared much better. Brighton won a thrilling 3-2 game in the League Cup after being down 2-0. United also lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, sparking further outrage amongst players and fans.

Carrick has very few chances left to impress before he is fired, and his time is nearing an end in Manchester.

Álvaro Arbeloa – Fulham

Fulham have started the season as one of the most forgettable teams in all of England. Arbeloa was brought in after a disappointing stint at Real Madrid with hopes to bring Fulham back to relevance. However, he has only further pushed them into it.

Fulham has actually played good soccer to start the season, but their performances tell a much different story.

Fulham achieved its first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Hull City after weeks of last second collapses. Fulham looks great for the opening 70 minutes, and consistently collapses in the last 20.

Ipswich Town won 2-1 over Fulham after scoring two goals in the final three minutes of the game. Crystal Palace scored the winner in the 77th minute after Fulham was previously up 2-1. Manchester United scored in the closing minutes to tie Fulham 1-1. Sunderland scored a late winner to win 1-0.

Arbeloa is not ready to handle the responsibilities of a Premier League manager. He is young with many great ideas, but his team can not figure out how to close games. At the current rate, Fulham looks like one of the teams most likely to be relegated.

The best solution at Craven Cottage may be to cut their losses and focus on survival at this early stage in the season, especially before it becomes more challenging to do so.
