£85m PL star a Manchester United alternative for Mbeumo or another target?

Chelsea leads Manchester United and Newcastle United in the race to sign West Ham United attacker Mohammed Kudus this summer. Man United have opted to prioritise the attacking department this summer despite facing vulnerabilities in all areas of the pitch.

Ruben Amorim has decided to make a squad overhaul and recruit players who would suit his tactical style and philosophy. As the current squad failed to meet Amorim’s demand, the Red Devils finished last season 16th in the Premier League.

United have already signed Wolves’ Matheus Cunha from Wolves and are fighting Tottenham Hotspur to sign Brentford right-winger Bryan Mbeumo. Furthermore, several top striker options currently available in the transfer market continue to attract United’s interest, despite the inflated prices.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea are ahead of United and Newcastle in the race to sign Kudus from West Ham. The 24-year-old’s current contract with the Hammers contains a £85m release clause for Premier League teams for the potential sale.

Whether United want Kudus as a separate signing or as an alternative to Mbeumo is currently a matter of speculation. Rest assured, the Ghanaian international is a Premier League-proven attacker with the qualities that Man United need in their squad.

The 24-year-old made 35 appearances for West Ham in all competitions last season, scoring five goals and providing four assists. Kudus’s struggle with contribution is parallel to the Hammers’ overall struggle last season, as he played in several different positions.

The 24-year-old’s versatility allows him to play on either side of the wings and centrally from the advanced position as a forward to the centre attacking midfield. Irrespective of his last season’s form, Kudus will contribute in a positive environment if Amorim’s plan proves worthy.

  • Nevertheless, United’s focus is on Mbeumo at this time, while they cannot afford to let the negotiation drag on. If the Red Devils add Kudus, along with Mbeumoe and Cunha, they could have a formidable attacking unit next season.
