AC Milan could make a move for Manchester United outcast Rasmus Hojlund this summer

Manchester United’s 2025/26 Premier League season began just as the previous season ended with disappointment. There were hopes that the team would come out with a better result in the first match against Arsenal, but everything collapsed after an initial bright start.

Altay Bayindir made a mistake in handling a simple corner, and Riccardo Calafiori headed home. United did create a few chances after that, with Benjamin Sesko’s introduction picking up the pace, but the equaliser did not come. Bryan Mbeumo’s brilliant effort went wide, and then David Raya saved his header. As a result, United suffered a defeat on the first evening of the season.

Højlund’s situation and AC Milan’s interest

Rasmus Højlund’s name came into the limelight even more after this defeat, as he was left out of the squad against Arsenal. The situation was not shocking for United fans, despite Højlund having clearly stated in the summer that he wanted to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place. However, new reports suggest that he is seriously thinking about his future.

AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare also gave clear indications on this. He said that Højlund could be a good option for the club, and this will be considered in the coming days. He also added that the transfer market is often unpredictable, and they will have to bring a new player in the striker position. At the same time, reports from Italy are saying that Milan do not plan to spend more than €34–35 million, but Manchester United are demanding a package of around €45 million, which includes a loan fee and an option to buy (Via Manchester Evening News).

This situation is strange for Højlund. He did not leave a deep mark last season, and the direction of the team changed after Amorim’s arrival. Now that he hasn’t even been named in the starting squad for the new season, it’s natural for him to have doubts. The question is whether he will really leave United for Milan, or stay at Old Trafford and wait for the chance.

“Hojlund is a good option for us. We’re evaluating him in the coming days, but the transfer market is unpredictable. We know we have to intervene in that position, and we also know they have to be players who can bring something extra to this group.”

We believe the Dane now has a big decision to make. If he moves to AC Milan, he can get regular opportunities in a new environment and regain his confidence, and staying at United would be detrimental to his career, as he is seriously not wanted by Amorim.

As far as the transfer fee is concerned, Milan’s offer of €34–35m seems reasonable considering his current form, but United’s demand of €45m cannot be called wrong. After all, the 22-year-old came to the club on the back of a huge signing fee, and age is on his side. We think, it is best for all parties to get the deal done quickly before the transfer window ends.
