One new Chelsea signing has been left pleasantly surprised by his start to life as a Chelsea player so far this season.
Chelsea have had a decent start to the new season and have gone unbeaten so far, only dropping points to Crystal Palace on the opening day. They added a number of new players in the summer transfer window as well, and some of them are making a good impression already. And as well as players coming in, they sorted a lot of departures out as well which they needed to do to balance the books and keep within the rules.
I think they should have signed a new centre back in the summer and apparently they still might look to get one in the January window, although there is a more likely scenario that is going to happen than that apparently.
And then there is the ‘very strange’ situation of striker Nicolas Jackson that has been going on for the last week or so as he joined Bayern Munich on loan from Chelsea yet it doesn’t look like he has much chance of going there permanently.
So, plenty going on. And new signing Estevao Willian has come in and showed how good he is already with a fantastic start to his Blues career.
Estevão said to Globo: “I think I’m developing now at Chelsea; I’m getting the opportunity and taking advantage of it. We do dream of a World Cup, we dream and we’re working.
“Every day I try to learn as much as possible here and at Chelsea to further develop my football.
“My English has improved a lot, because I’m speaking it every day. The Brazilians at Chelsea force me to speak English as well, which makes it easier.
“I’m doing extra work now with a local team, but the club offers everything I need to be the best. I’m trying to adapt as quickly as possible.
“Of course we’re closer to João [Pedro] and Andrey, because we’re together every day at Chelsea. But Marquinhos, Alisson, Raphinha, Paquetá and Bruno Guimarães are helping me a lot with the national team.
“It’s important to gain muscle, but not fundamental. I prefer to improve my speed and my style of play.
“I’m already having a lot more opportunities than I expected at Chelsea. That’s because of the work I’ve done in training. Enzo Maresca trusts me a lot, and I try to repay that on the pitch.”
