Amad Diallo heads into the new season with plenty to prove after a campaign that never quite reached the standards he had previously set at Manchester United.
The 24-year-old found himself deployed at right wing-back for much of Ruben Amorim’s tenure, a role that limited his attacking freedom before eventually returning to the right wing following the Portuguese coach’s departure.
Although Amad showed flashes of quality, he finished the 2025/26 campaign with just two goals and three assists for the Red Devils.
That represented a significant drop from the previous season, when he enjoyed his breakthrough at Old Trafford by registering 11 goals and eight assists to establish himself as one of the club’s most exciting young talents.
Despite those numbers, United have remained fully committed to keeping hold of the winger.
Several clubs have expressed interest in signing during the current transfer window.
However, Manchester United have rejected approaches as Michael Carrick continues building his squad for the future.
While his club future appears secure, Amad Diallo has now received confirmation of a major development away from Manchester.
The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) have officially confirmed the appointment of Herve Renard as the new head coach of Ivory Coast.
The decision was announced through the federation’s official Instagram account.
Renard returns to lead the Elephants after previously guiding the nation to Africa Cup of Nations glory in 2015.
He replaces Emerse Fae following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The appointment gives Amad one of international football’s most decorated managers at a crucial stage of his career as he looks to regain the form that made him one of United’s most standout performers just two seasons ago.
Renard brings an outstanding resume with him.
He remains the only coach to have won the Africa Cup of Nations with two different countries, lifting the trophy with Zambia in 2012 before repeating the feat with Ivory Coast in 2015.
He has also managed Morocco at the 2018 World Cup, masterminded Saudi Arabia’s famous victory over eventual champions Argentina at the 2022 World Cup, coached the France women’s national team and has accumulated experience across several continents during an outstanding managerial career.
Manchester United supporters will now hope Herve Renard’s arrival helps Amad rediscover the confidence and consistency needed to take another significant step forward at both club and international level.
