Manchester City had a reshape in attack at the start of this season as key players Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus left to join rivals Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.

So reinforcements were needed for Pep Guardiola and two strikers were brought in for him after he had won the Premier League title with a false nine system.

All the noise was rightly surrounding Erling Haaland who had the reputation of being one of the best strikers in the world and he has proved that with 28 goals and counting in the Premier League so far for City.

The other striker who got brought in was Julian Alvarez and it was always clear that he would be an understudy to Haaland but he was seriously impressed this season.

In all competitions this season Alvarez has played 31 games and has reached double figures in goals as he sits on 10 with three assists.

He also went to the World Cup and made the striker position his own for Argentina on their way to winning the most famous trophy in football so Guardiola knew that he had to try and get Alvarez upfront alongside Haaland which he has started to do.

Due to his good form Manchester City are reportedly very close to extending his current deal at the club.

The new deal is set to have a much improved salary for the 23-year-old and it is set to run for a further year until 2028.
