Tottenham are aiming to land Lille star Jonathan David

Gone are the days when Tottenham Hotspur had reliable attackers in their ranks. The fans have seen Harry Kane, Dimitar Berbatov, and Jermain Defoe don the Lilywhite jersey and lead the line at N17 over the years. But now, Spurs are facing a crisis in the final third of the pitch and are looking to bolster their attack by bringing in a quality centre-forward for next season.

Spurs forwards have struggled to get going this season. Last summer’s statement signing Dominic Solanke has failed to find the back of the net consistently in the Premier League. However, the England international is in fine goalscoring form recently and he is finally finding his feet at N17.

Richarlison, on the other hand, has struggled to stay fit this season. The Brazil international has also fallen down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou. It is fair to say that the 27-year-old has failed to make meaningful impact at Tottenham ever since he made the switch from Everton.

Tottenham receive massive boost in their efforts to land Lille star Jonathan David

Tottenham are aiming to bring in a new striker for next season. With Richarlison heading for the exit doors at N17 and Mathys Tel struggling to adapt, Daniel Levy feels like a new attacker will be needed to compete with Dominic Solanke for a spot in the starting eleven.

Spurs are interested in signing Jonathan David from Lille in the summer. The Canada international becomes a free agent once the season ends and he has no intentions of extending his stay at the French club. The Lilywhites see this as a perfect opportunity to land the prolific striker on a free transfer.

Now, Tottenham have received a massive boost in their efforts to land the 25-year-old. Speaking to The Shields Gazette, David said,

“Yes, I will be free at the end of the season. As for my future, I hope to grow, become a better player and play for the biggest clubs in the world, if I can. Do you want any clues about my future? You will all know in due time, that is at the end of the season.”

The striker is clearly looking to test himself in a new environment and play for a big club next season. Daniel Levy will now need to act quick to sign the Canada international before other clubs start approaching him. It is believed that West Ham United and Liverpool are also interested in signing the 25-year-old and want to add him to their ranks for next season.

Should Tottenham sign Jonathan David?

Signing Jonathan David would mean that Mathys Tel will lose his place in the starting eleven. The Frenchman arrived on loan from Bayern Munich and Spurs are all set to make his move permanent in the summer. But, the 19-year-old would have to work hard to force a place in the squad. With Dominic Solanke already confirmed as the main striker, the potential arrival of Jonathan David would make things tough for Tel.

David would fit in perfectly at Spurs. The striker’s strongest attribute is holding up the ball with his back facing the goal. He tends to lure defenders and create space for his teammates. The 25-year-old’s explosive pace also helps him to skip past the defenders and create a chance for himself.

David also tends to drop deep for Lille and link-up play. The Canadian’s aerial threat is also a great asset to have. He would compliment Dominic Solanke’s game well and provide a different dynamic to the Spurs attack. Will Jonathan David end up donning the Lilywhite jersey? Only time will tell.
