Anthony Martial rejects £13m offer to join club

Anthony Martial arrived at Manchester United with the unknown wrapped around him and left his first night at Old Trafford with his name ringing around it.

Still only 19, the Frenchman stepped from the bench against Liverpool in September 2015, glided beyond Martin Skrtel and rolled the ball into the far corner.

It was the sort of introduction supporters spend years waiting to witness.

There was elegance to Martial at his best.

He could drift in from the left, leave defenders chasing shadows and finish with a calmness that made everything appear slower around him.

Yet the explosion never quite became the era United hoped for.

Managers changed, roles changed and injuries repeatedly interrupted his rhythm.

There were still brilliant spells, particularly under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but consistency became increasingly difficult to find.

By 2024, Martial’s nine-year United journey was over.

Moves to AEK Athens and Monterrey offered opportunities to rebuild, but neither became the permanent second chapter he needed.

Now without a club, the 30-year-old has been presented with an extraordinary offer – and turned it down.

Martial turns down lucrative contract

According to the Mirror, Martial has rejected an approach from Libyan side Al-Ittihad Tripoli worth approximately £13million.

The proposed package reportedly included £8.6million in net salary across two years alongside a £4.3million signing-on fee.

Martial instead appears prepared to wait for another opportunity, with his future potentially taking him elsewhere in Europe.

Russian clubs CSKA Moscow and Krasnodar are also among those to have made contact over a possible move.

Spanish interest has also emerged, including from Malaga, while Martial is understood to have rejected an approach from Auxerre earlier this summer.

It is a remarkable crossroads for a player once introduced to Old Trafford as one of Europe’s brightest teenagers.

More than a decade after that unforgettable Liverpool goal announced Martial to Manchester, he is searching for the club capable of giving his career another beginning.
