Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann will not be in action for France this international break, after he returned to Madrid from Clairefontaine on Monday. The 32-year-old is still struggling with his ankle problem that recently kept him out for three weeks.

Griezmann returned to action last Wednesday, playing 105 minutes against Inter, but was only fit enough for 45 minutes against Barcelona on Sunday night. After joining up with Les Bleus, it was decided that he would be better off recovering at home rather than forcing the issue for France’s friendlies with Germany and Chile, as per MD.

It will bring to an end an historic record. Griezmann had featured in every France on an 84-game run that dates back to 2017. The next longest streak of consecutive games for Les Bleus was 44 by Patrick Viera. Griezmann has 127 caps overall and 44 goals, in addition to the 2018 World Cup title, but will be hoping to add to that list of honours this summer with France’s first Euros since 2000 in Germany.
