Argentina media react to Lisandro Martinez display vs Austria

Vavel rated him 7/10 and said, “Initially rushed in possession, he did a great job of controlling the slower tempo as the game went on.

“Set up substitute Gonzalez with an outstanding long pass at the end. Not much to do defensively.”

MNews gave him 6/10 and said, “Tried to anticipate, but wasn’t always successful. Few interventions. Always well-positioned.

“He didn’t complicate things and cleared danger whenever he could.”

Clarin also rated him 6/10 and wrote, “Another solid performance from Licha, showing complete concentration.

“He held his own playing in the air against the towering Michael Gregoritsch, who is 18 centimeters taller than him.”

TyC Sports offered the strongest praise, giving him 8/10 and said, “Once again, the best defender and one of the best on the team. This kid’s anticipation is phenomenal.

“Plus, crystal-clear vision when playing out from the back, even for long passes, like the one that put Nicolas Gonzalez through on goal.

“A fantastic game from the center-back, formidable in the tackle and the dirty play.

“A butcher who’ll kill you on the pitch and is a sweetheart off it.”

Martinez’s form is a positive sign for Manchester United as he looks to put behind him an injury-hit campaign at club level last season.

Fitness issues limited his availability, but his performances at the World Cup suggest he is returning to full rhythm at the right time.
