Arsenal star defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi has been one of the keys to the Gunners controlling Premier League midfields with ease and thus the title race to this point, but the Spanish international has begun to look a little long in the legs.
And it is no surprise either. Out of all the players in the Premier League thus far in the 2025/26 campaign, Zubimendi is the leader in total kilometers traveled with nearly 300. Not even Everton workhorse midfielder James Garner or Nottingham Forest dynamo Elliot Anderson have covered more ground.
Every single Arsenal fan can tell that Zubi is gassed, and they greatly appreciate all the dirty work he does so that the other players on Arsenal, including Ballon d’Or candidate Declan Rice, can shine with their statistics.
Not only that, but Arsenal fans have been begging manager Mikel Arteta to rest Zubimendi going back months ago, as another successful summer transfer, former Brentford captain Christian Norgaard, is fully capable of starting Premier League games.
While it is tempting to always go with the Plan A’s with the Premier League title on the line and Manchester City threatening, Norgaard has proven capable both for Brentford and even this season for Arsenal.
The veteran defensive midfielder has been lights out, even bette than advertised, in the cup games this season, and when he finally got a decent 14 minutes to close the rivalry game against Chelsea this past weekend, Arsenal did not suffer in the slightest.
Clearly, the solution is staring Arsenal in the face. Play Norgaard. He is no Zubimendi, but he is also tremendous defensively and can do enough to help keep the possession ticking over.
