Atletico Madrid have had another strong season this year as they finish fourth in LaLiga, securing Champions League football for another season.

It’s been five seasons since they lifted the LaLiga trophy in 2020/21, routinely bouncing between third and fourth place since then.

However, their women’s team have also finished fourth this season in LaLiga F, unfortunately for them, setting them to miss out on the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Now, with the season at an end, Atletico’s Women’s side have announced the departure of four stars, with one in particular set to make the move to Old Trafford this summer.

Taking to their official website, Atletico Madrid reported: “Andrea Medina, Vilde Bøe Risa, Sheila Guijarro, and Patricia Larqué will not be continuing with the club next season.”

The continued: “The club thanks them for their effort and hard work over the past several seasons and wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

Manchester United sign Andrea Medina

Of these four, the key one for United fans is Andrea Medina, with The Guru taking to X earlier today to report that the 22-year-old left-back has already agreed terms to join Marc Skinner’s Manchester United Women’s side.

Paying tribute to Medina, Atletico’s farewell commented: “Andrea arrived at the club in the summer of 2022.”

It continued: “After four seasons as a Rojiblanca, the Andalusian footballer has played a total of 130 official matches (103 in Liga F, 14 in Copa de la Reina, 10 in UEFA Women’s Champions League and three in Supercopa de España) and in her first season won the Copa de la Reina which we achieved in Leganés against Real Madrid.”

Skinner had a front-row seat to scout her as well this season as she played all 90 minutes of United’s  first leg against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Women’s Champions League knockout play-offs, as United won 3-0.

This was followed by her 65-minute performance in the second match, with United again beating the Spanish side, this time 2-0.

Now it’s understood that she is headed for England, with the ability to also play in centre-back, bringing more versatility to Skinner’s side.
