Avram Glazer, one of Manchester United’s co-owners, isn’t just sitting around waiting for the summer transfer window to open.
Lately, he’s been looking beyond football, chasing big opportunities in global sports.
Cricket’s Indian Premier League has become a huge moneymaker, and it’s started to pull in investors from all over the world.
Buying into an IPL team isn’t simple.
You need deep pockets, bids often hit billions, and the whole thing turns into a scramble with multiple groups fighting for a piece.
Right now, there’s a lot of buzz as major players gear up for the 2026 season.
Avram Glazer’s firm, Lancer Capital, has made the shortlist to buy Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The deal would include both the men’s and women’s teams of Royal Challengers Bengaluru
RCB won the IPL last season and it looks like Avram Glazer wants part of that success as well; something he hasn’t been able to find at United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure back in 2013.
The team’s current owner, Diageo, wants around $2 billion for an investor to acquire Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as reported by ET Now via X.
Avram Glazer already threw in a $1.8 billion bid, and that has reportedly advanced to the next round of the bidding process.
He’s got stiff competition, everyone from Ranjan Pai’s Manipal Group to Adar Poonawalla of Serum Institute of India, plus the Times Group, EQT Private Capital, Capri Global, and Sanjay Govil, who owns teams in both the US and UK.
Right now, Glazer’s seen as one of the favorites for RCB.
Diageo says the RCB deal should wrap up in February, and Rajasthan’s bidding ends in early March.
For United fans, it’s just more proof that the club’s owners aren’t afraid to look far beyond Old Trafford.
