Manchester United’s recruitment team are expected to be active once again this summer as the club continues reshaping key areas of the squad.
We have already covered the growing focus on midfield reinforcements amid Casemiro’s confirmed departure at the end of the season, alongside persistent links to the likes of Sandro Tonali.
At the same time, defensive depth remains under review.
United have monitored right-back options like Julian Ryerson in the last week, while uncertainty around long-term competition in wide defensive areas means the hierarchy are exploring multiple market opportunities.
Now, the attention has turned to the left side of the defence.
According to Ben Jacobs, speaking on The United Stand YouTube channel, the idea of signing a Barcelona defender has been proposed internally by Christopher Vivell.
However, the player in question is understood to prefer staying in Spain like his teammate Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan from the Red Devils.
That defender is Alejandro Balde.
Jacobs reports that Vivell has floated Balde’s name as a potential market opportunity, but there is currently no indication that the player is pushing for a move away from FC Barcelona.
In fact, Alejandro Balde is believed to want to remain at the Camp Nou and fight for his place.
The 22-year-old has long been regarded as one of Europe’s most dynamic attacking full-backs, combining pace with strong progressive carrying ability – attributes that would naturally appeal to a United side looking to modernise its defensive profile.
However, as it stands, this appears to be more of an exploratory proposal rather than an advanced pursuit.
With Barcelona’s own financial landscape often unpredictable, situations can evolve quickly, but there is no suggestion of formal negotiations.
For now, the proposal remains just that – an internal idea rather than a concrete transfer development.
